Daily prayer

Today’s prayer

Hope in a difficult time

Almighty God,

I come before You at the beginning of this day. Thank You that You already know what lies ahead and that I may live every moment under Your care.

Thank You that Your presence does not disappear when my path becomes difficult or uncertain. You remain faithful when my feelings change.

Today I think of Isaiah 40:31. Your Word teaches me that those who hope in You receive new strength. This means to me that weariness does not have the final word over my day. Renew me inwardly and give me courage to approach every task with perseverance.

Forgive me where disappointment has made me hard, bitter or discouraged. Keep the flame of hope burning in me. Give me patience for the process and faith to continue when I do not yet see change.

I pray for my family. Provide work, food, safety and rest where needed. Help me not only to notice their needs, but also to respond with an open heart.

Use my experience to stand with compassion beside someone else in a difficult time. I place the situation I cannot change and the outcome I cannot foresee in Your hands.

I entrust my life, my loved ones and my future completely to You.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

A new prayer appears after sunset, at about 17:44.

A peaceful nature scene accompanying Isaiah 49:15.

Isaiah 49:15

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you!

Together in faith

VLU Prayer

A prayer that reminds us to live together with wisdom, dignity and kindness.

Keep us, O Lord, from pettiness; let us be great in thought, word and deed.

Let us avoid fault-finding and guard against all self-glorification.

May we be slow to judge and always generous; teach us to put our better impulses honestly and fearlessly into practice.

Help us not to be hurried, but to grow in calmness, dignity and gentleness.

Grant that we may realise it is the little things that divide us, and that in the great things of life we are one.

May we strive to know the common human heart and, Lord our God, let us never neglect to be kind.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Read it slowly. Give every sentence a moment to settle quietly in the heart.
